Over the last decade, Eva Giannakopoulou has been developing research-based works in video and performance that involve collaborations with specific communities that have formed based on shared principles, interests, or identities. Her recent projects have involved collaborations with LGBTQI+ parenthood groups in particular, and their relationships to radical ideologies and representations. Giannakopoulou’s video, at the Beach 2 (2017), is the second installment of her three-part video series “at the Beach.” In this work, the artist interviews LGBTQI+ parents on their summer holidays. “at the Beach” points toward the social and political stakes for those whose definitions of family are seen as differing from traditional classifications and conventions that remain deep-seated in Greek culture and the laws of the state.
