In Search of the Perfect Double (2017) is part of a series of works by Upson that center around a family living in a tract house in Las Vegas. In this video, an unnamed androgynous protagonist, whom the artist refers to as “Her,” tours multiple tract houses as if she were a potential buyer searching for her ideal home in a bizarre take on the HGTV series House Hunters. In each house, Her and her entourage obsessively compare the architectural details in each home to an original that was built in 1979 by the biggest producer of tract homes in the Las Vegas suburb.
